Ryohei Hashimoto

Ryohei Hashimoto (born 1983) works in Suita, Osaka. He has several daytime jobs; collecting paper for recycling and gardening, and he makes artworks in his free time.
He likes smooth, coated paper such as the back of flyers found in newspapers or the back of calendars. He makes line drawings on them enjoying the feel of felt tip pens sliding on the smooth surface. In the beginning, he drew heavy machinery such as forklifts and bulldozers as if they were abstract patterns. The lines in his works gradually became denser and his works changed into solid plane drawings that have many layers. Presently, Hashimoto’s expression is shifting to a play with a sense of touch, free from motifs and any painting styles.
